Utah Jazz Alumni: Trevor Booker announces retirement from NBA
Former Utah Jazz forward Trevor Booker, who became a fan favorite during his time with the team, has announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 32.
When you throw the name “Trevor Booker” around a mob of Utah Jazz fans, chances are they’ll tell you how much they adored having the former Clemson product on their team.
Yeah, he only played two seasons with the Utah Jazz. Yeah, he was a bench player that started in just seven of 158 games for the Utah Jazz. That stuff is irrelevant when it comes to Cook Book, though.
The thing that Utah Jazz fans love about Booker is his relentless effort. Every single time Booker touched the court, he provided a ton of energy and hustle. He has never been the most skilled player, but his passion, work ethic and ability to play a role is what had him on the floor everywhere he went.
Booker was originally drafted 23rd overall in 2010 by the Wizards. After four years in Washington, he spent time with Utah, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Indiana. Now, Booker is retiring from the NBA after his multiple stops.
His best individual season had to be with Brooklyn in 2016-17, where he averaged 10.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in 24.7 minutes. He played a major role for a Nets team that was searching for an identity.
He played a similar role with the Jazz prior to joining Brooklyn. The Jazz, at the time, were super young and needed some toughness on the roster. Booker proved to be a perfect fit and an awesome signing by Dennis Lindsey and company.
Booker has talked highly about Utah and the Jazz even after his tenure with the team. Many were hoping that he would make a return at some point, and while it was rumored at one point, it never happened, which bums me out.
He became a fan favorite thanks to his hard work, and I believe that he is very appreciative of his time in Utah. That’s something both he and the fans can take with them. Trevor Booker, thank you for being such a cool dude and on such a great career!
For his career, Booker owns averages of 6.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in 20.4 minutes. He played eight NBA seasons and has a promising career as an entrepreneur ahead of him. I wish him nothing but the best in his retirement.
