New York Twitter gets swept away by Donovan Mitchell rumors

The Utah Jazz seem to be shopping around superstar guard Donovan Mitchell and plan on fully embracing a rebuild, but so far nothing surrounding Mitchell is set in stone. It might look like Utah plans on trading him, but they haven’t yet, so he is still currently a Jazzman.

One fanbase that tends to shove themselves in the middle of the NBA world is the New York Knicks. Despite having only one playoff berth and seven head coaches in the last ten seasons, the New York loyal have deluded themselves into thinking they are a model franchise that any player would be thrilled to play for.

I get it. The Utah Jazz have never won a title, but at least they are almost always relevant. Sure, Salt Lake City doesn’t have the glitz of the Big Apple, but the franchise is always above average, stable, and on the right path.

With Mitchell on the trade block, it looks like the path might be directing the team to a rebuild. The Knicks are certainly the frontrunners in the Mitchell sweepstakes, but NYK fans seem to think the deal is already done and they are well on their way to a dynasty. This is simply not true, but that has never stopped big market fans from getting ahead of themselves.

Knicks fans are prone to exaggerate or look for things that aren’t there, as pointed out by one user.

Don’t get it twisted, “source” could mean literally anything, and at this point it could all be smoke and mirrors.

Note the language used below. Fans are no longer saying “he will be a Knick,” opting instead for present tense. While a deal may be done, we are still in the dark.

We return to Earth with a reminder that nothing is solidified, and fans are just getting ahead of themselves.

There is nothing wrong with wanting your favorite team to add a star player, but to suggest that a deal is done when no credible sources have made mention of it is beyond absurd. This could be chalked up to overzealous NBA fans, or it could be something bigger.

Remember when Knicks fans deluded themselves into thinking they were getting LeBron James? Or a trio of Kyrie Irving, Zion Williamson, and Kevin Durant? Their best acquisitions have been Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. Both good players, sure, but the Knicks don’t exactly have a history of landing star talent, despite what fans may think. This could end up being legitimate, or NY fans could once again swing for the fences while the organization falls short.
