Danilo Gallinari
Landing Danilo Callinari would be a great move for the Utah Jazz. Yes, he’s 35, but he’s still a good enough player that he could add an effective scoring option for the Jazz. While the Jazz don’t need another score-first forward, if the Jazz end up making some trades at some point to bring in a major name, or just to unburden the roster, then they could make a move for Gallinari.
Currently, the Italian superstar is on the Washington Wizards, and the team is not going to keep him around for long. They’re in a full-blown rebuild and have already dealt their biggest players Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis.
Bela is now in Phoenix with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, while Porzingis is with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in Boston. There’s no reason for the Wizards to keep Gallinari, and if a team comes in with a good offer, the Wizards will be motivated to move him.
Now the Jazz landing him will determine firstly, how good his shot is falling this year, and secondly, how effective the team has been at trying to make the playoffs. If they’re in the top six in the Western Conference, it stands to reason that the team would make a move for the Italian icon.
team that you should get used to. The roster is in a good place, but with the team possibly being in a state of flux this year, you shouldn’t get used to anyone. The Jazz are being directed now by former Boston Celtics executive, Danny Ainge, who is famous for making bold trades and stockpiling draft picks.

He’s started doing the same thing with the Jazz, helping them secure an immense amount of first-round draft picks. It’s possible that Ainge isn’t done either, as the roster still has some valuable pieces to it that could be dealt. On the flip side, Ainge could also take the assets he’s already acquired and try and land an NBA Superstar like Luka Doncic or Giannis Antetokounmpo.

So it’s fair to say that the roster is far from complete, or stable. There will be major moves still to come, but who gets dealt is up in the air. That uncertainty, plus the fact the point guard position is lacking a certified starter has made the possibility of trades even more likely.

That’s why the Jazz need to consider the guys on this list, as there are a few players who can help with either defense, the point guard spot, or even winning a title. The team isn’t so far away from competing that they shouldn’t be thinking about bringing in a major name to help the roster, but they aren’t so close that it’s the only direction they should consider.

So this is a list of three players we think could help the Jazz, no matter what direction they go in.

Elfrid Payton

While it may not seem like the best move on paper, going after someone like Elfrid Payton actually makes total sense, in a certain situation that is. You’re not going after Payton today, with the roster the way it is. You already have enough question marks at the point guard position, and you don’t want to be adding more.

But it’s clear he’s about to return to the league, somehow, as the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets are both interested in the defensive-minded point guard. So why not return to the league to the Utah Jazz?

Now, he’s not just coming today, but should the Jazz find out that the likes of Kris Dunn <a href=https://thejnotes.com/2023/09/15/3-nba-players-utah-jazz-need-keep-eye/3/"https://thejnotes.com/2023/09/13/is-the-grade-for-the-utah-jazzs-collin-sexton-fair-or-foul/">and Collin Sexton aren’t cutting it, then you could make a case for Payton, who historically is a solid passer and a very good defender. He could also be an option if you end up trading guys like Dunn, Talen Horton-Tucker, and maybe someone like Sexton or Jordan Clarkson. Whether those players get traded for future prospects or draft picks, or as part of a larger trade to land a major player at some point this season; Payton could come in and be a big addition to the club.

That is if someone doesn’t sign him first.

Lamar Stevens

Having shown his value with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Lamar Stevens enters the conversation with a very unique twist. He’s not like Danilo Gallinari, who is a score-first forward. No, Stevens is defensive-minded from the get-go and that’s not a bad thing, especially for the Utah Jazz. The Jazz have a good mind and set of players to have an excellent defense but right now it’s unclear just how good the team can be in that regard.

There are high hopes the trio of rookies, Keyonte George, Taylor Hendricks, and Brice Sensabaugh could come in and give the defense a boost, but that’s a pie-in-the-sky idea. Rookie players are always a mystery and you have no idea what you have in them until you have an idea what you have in them. They could be icons of the game, or selling propane and propane accessories in a season.

So you need to find assurances to help make sure the defense is as good as possible around Walker Kessler. The team may be a solid defensive unit when it’s all said and done, but the fact is the next best player on defense besides Kessler is Kris Dunn, and if he isn’t guaranteed to make the roster, you may need to help fortify Kessler.

A strong, defensive-minded wing could help you with that. He’s drawing some interest from other teams ever since he got released by the San Antonio Spurs, following a trade from the Cavaliers, but if he’s still available later in the year, the Jazz would be wise to look into his talents.
