Before the NBA suspended the 2019-20 season, the Utah Jazz had built up a collection of awesome and memorable moments. Here’s five that stood out among the rest.
Without any Utah Jazz games over the past 12 days, I’ve had time to really sit and think about things.
Those things, of course, have mostly been basketball related. What can I say? I’m a basketball junkie, and this NBA withdrawal has hit me hard. I sat back, grabbed a cup of coffee and watched film from this season and previous seasons.
It wasn’t always the Utah Jazz that I was watching, but it was for the most part. I had a craving for my team and that’s the only thing that would suffice.
Looking back on the 2019-20 season gave me positive and negative vibes. Typically, I try to look at the bright side of things, but this season had so many ups-and-downs that were tough to ignore.
If you didn’t watch the Jazz at all and simply looked at their 41-23 record, you’d think that they were doing very well. At times, they were very well. They even looked like the championship contending team that we thought they’d be going into the season.
Then came the times where the team as a whole looked disinterested and unengaged. This is easily the most talented team that the Utah Jazz have assembled in a long time, and yet, many fans described the 2019-20 season as the most frustrating one in a long time.
Still, this season did have plenty of good moments, and during a time like this, that’s what I’d prefer to focus on. So, I have decided to come up with a list of the most memorable Utah Jazz moments from the 2019-20 season.
With so much noise and focus on the Rudy Gobert/Donovan Mitchell drama, it’s good to turn our attention to the good times. If the 2019-20 season does resume, we sure would like to see some more of these moments in the future.
Without further ado, let’s get started.

Bojan Bogdanovic’s game-winner vs Milwaukee

Perhaps the most memorable moment from this season was <a href=https://thejnotes.com/2020/03/23/utah-jazz-5-memorable-moments-prior-hiatus/"https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bogdabo02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" ref="nofollow">Bojan Bogdanovic‘s game-winning triple against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Utah Jazz were nine games into the season and were 5-3 going into a match-up against the MVP, <a href=https://thejnotes.com/2020/03/23/utah-jazz-5-memorable-moments-prior-hiatus/"https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/antetgi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" ref="nofollow">Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the Milwaukee Bucks. Utah played a heck of a game against one of the best teams in the league, and it ended in dramatic fashion.

The score was 100-100, and the Jazz had the ball after a costly turnover by <a href=https://thejnotes.com/2020/03/23/utah-jazz-5-memorable-moments-prior-hiatus/"https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/middlkh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" ref="nofollow">Khris Middleton. They were one shot away from getting a statement victory against a team that was 6-2 at that point and fresh off a Conference Finals appearance. Here’s what happened next:

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://thejnotes.com/2020/03/23/utah-jazz-5-memorable-moments-prior-hiatus/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/2lQlD68cX1o?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen>

Man, I can recall the moments leading up to this beautiful shot from Bogdanovic. I was on the couch saying to myself “please give it to Bogey” multiple times. He was having a great game and hit the shot he’s been craving during his career — a game-winning buzzer beater.

The home crowd got LOUD and Bogdanovic was quickly swarmed by his teammates. The shot, the announcing, the reaction and the energy — it was special. It was one of those moments that you dream about as a kid while playing in your backyard.

Bogdanovic, arguably the best free agent signing in Utah Jazz history, has quickly become a fan favorite during his time in Utah, and moments like this one reason why. He’s been a perfect fit on the court and is an even better person off the court.

The 10-game winning streak

The Utah Jazz acquired <a href=https://thejnotes.com/2020/03/23/utah-jazz-5-memorable-moments-prior-hiatus/"https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/clarkjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" ref="nofollow">Jordan Clarkson from the Cleveland Cavaliers in a trade right before Christmas. He made his debut with the team on the 26th of December against the Blazers. After acquiring Clarkson, the Jazz would go on to win ten straight games.

While the schedule did lighten up significantly, giving the Jazz easy opportunities against teams like the Pistons, Knicks, Hornets (2x) and Wizards, racking up 10 straight wins is no easy task. The Jazz flat out looked dominant during this stretch.

It was the Jazz team that a lot of us were expecting going into the season. When this team is clicking, like they were during the 10-game winning streak, they have a unique combination of offense and defense that makes them incredibly difficult to slow down.

Even after the streak ended, the Jazz would go on to win four in a row before hitting one of those rough patches. I wish we could have seen more of this version of the Jazz, but it’s a long season filled with ups-and-downs.

If you’re going to re-watch some Utah Jazz games from this season, I’d recommend some games from this stretch. While a lot of these games were blowouts, they showed how dominant the Jazz can be.

Bojan Bogdanovic’s game-winner vs Houston

Hey, another Bojan Bogdanovic game-winner! I’m not sure if hitting a game-winning shot is better at home or on the road, but both of Bogey’s winners from this season were incredible. The first one sent the fans home happy, but this one shocked just about everyone in the arena.

Bogdanovic was not having a good game against Houston in this one, but he came through in a big way for the Jazz. He only had eight points on the night, and this crazy shot was his second field goal of the night. It takes a lot of confidence and guts to take a shot like that when you’re having an off night.

The Jazz were hanging with the Rockets all night long, and got a huge game from Jordan Clarkson off the bench. He had 30 points and led Utah’s second half push. It was a game the Jazz needed, given Houston’s dominance and mental advantage over Utah in recent years.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://thejnotes.com/2020/03/23/utah-jazz-5-memorable-moments-prior-hiatus/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/s2X6kwGPkeE?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen>

There it is. This was an incredible, and honestly, lucky shot from Bogdanovic. He may have even been fouled on the play. With his second game-winning buzzer beater of the season, Bogdanovic has proven to be a solid closing option for the Utah Jazz.

Bogdanovic is the only player to have multiple game-winning buzzer beaters this season. If the season does resume, let’s hope that Bogdanovic has more of these dramatic endings up his sleeve.

Rudy Gobert’s game-saving block vs Dallas

There was a stretch during the 2019-20 season where Rudy Gobert looked unstoppable. His teammates were finding him in good scoring positions, his defense was elite, per usual, and the Jazz were winning games against tougher opponents.

In what may have been Gobert’s best performance of the season against Dallas, he made a defensive play that may have been the best of his career. Down the stretch, <a href=https://thejnotes.com/2020/03/23/utah-jazz-5-memorable-moments-prior-hiatus/"https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wrighde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-%22 target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" ref="nofollow">Delon Wright had him turned around after a fake and had what looked like an easy layup.

Not so fast, Delon! The former Utah Ute was stunned when Gobert recovered and blocked his layup. While the Mavericks thought it was a goaltend, the replay clearly showed Gobert got it before it hit the backboard. It was just an unreal defensive play by one of the best defensive players to ever play this game.

<iframe loading="lazy" width="500" height="281" src=https://thejnotes.com/2020/03/23/utah-jazz-5-memorable-moments-prior-hiatus/"https://www.youtube.com/embed/IyT53m5aygI?feature=oembed%22 frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen>

This was Rudy Gobert at his best this season. He led the Jazz to a victory against a team that was right behind them in the standings. I’m not sure if you will find a better defensive play from anyone this season, and if you do, what are the odds that it’s Gobert again? Pretty high, if you ask me.

This block from Gobert had fans buzzing and standing in appreciation. Gobert is someone that catches a lot of heat from elsewhere, so the best thing Utah Jazz fans can do is sit back and enjoy their star center. He’s one of the best player in franchise history because of plays like this.

Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell’s All-Star debut

How satisfying was it for Utah Jazz fans to see their star duo get the recognition that they deserve? Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell were voted in as All-Star reserves, and they were both incredibly deserving.

At the end of the day, All-Star games really aren’t that big of a deal. However, I like to see my guys in the spotlight and like to see them rewarded for their hard work.

Gobert put on a show in his first All-Star game, finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds. He didn’t close the game, which disappointed many fans, but he got to showcase his talents to the world and did a darn good job. He looked like he belonged with the best the NBA has to offer, that’s for sure.

Mitchell didn’t preform nearly as good as Gobert, scoring seven points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Still, it’s a tremendous honor for the third-year guard out of Louisville. I’ve got a feeling that he’ll earn quite a few All-Star appearances in the future.

It’s really a shame to see where they are at now with their relationship, but looking back, Gobert and Mitchell looked so happy out there in the All-Star game. Good times, man.

Utah Jazz fans fell in love with Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. Watching them work hard every night and get rewarded was a joyful experience.
